About Us
Grounded care from a team you can trust.
Who We Are
White Oak Counseling is a practice of licensed therapists providing evidence-based mental health treatment for individual adults in Central Virginia. Founded by Eric and Carly Mount in 2017, White Oak Counseling brings a proven approach to the art of therapy, using research-backed methods to provide practical, compassionate care that honors each person’s unique mental health journey.

Why We Chose
the White Oak
We chose the White Oak as the symbol for our name and practice because it reflects the strength and resilience we believe are essential to the journey of healing. Common to Central Virginia, the White Oak is deeply rooted, offering stability beneath the surface while growing steadily and enduring through time. Its strong foundation, persistent growth, and weathered bark mirror the qualities we aim to nurture in therapy: groundedness, resilience, and lasting personal development.
Our Values

Evidence-based
We use the best available research and clinical expertise to ensure that our care is grounded in methods that are effective and tailored to the needs of each client.
Ethical & Equitable
We are committed to building an ethical, equitable practice that respects the dignity of every person that enters our office, whether they are a client or staff member.
Practical
Care
We don't promise cures for mental health challenges. Our approach is grounded, realistic, and client-centered, equipping clients with the tools to cope with whatever comes their way.
Integrity
We strive to show up with honesty, transparency, and accountability in every session and every decision.
Compassion
We meet our clients with empathy, not judgment, because we believe healing happens when people feel seen, supported, and safe.

What to Expect in Therapy
Therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we’ll identify clear treatment goals to guide our sessions and create a framework for change. Within this structure, we’ll explore what has brought you to this point, deepen your understanding of yourself, and clarify where you’d like to go next. Our role is to walk alongside you—maintaining focus, offering perspective, and supporting you through each step of your journey. We draw on evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help you build practical skills, reach your goals, and experience meaningful, lasting growth.
