Therapy for Depression

Reclaim joy and connection.

Understanding Depression

Depression can make everyday life feel heavy, leaving you drained, disconnected, or stuck in negative thought patterns. For you, it's an experience that goes beyond sadness to something deeper, maybe something inside that feels broken and unfixable.

You don't have to deal with depression alone. At White Oak Counseling, we're here to help you explore the factors contributing to your depression, and find practical, evidence-based approaches to treating it. With our support, you can rediscover joy, contentment, and connection with yourself and others.

Signs you may need therapy for depression:

When depression begins to interfere with your everyday life, it’s time to seek therapy. For example:

  • You’re experiencing prolonged feelings of sadness, emptiness, hopelessness, or self-loathing

  • You’re irritable much of the time

  • You’re no longer taking interest or delight in activities and experiences you used to enjoy

  • You’re feeling isolated from community (friends, family, colleagues)

  • You’re having trouble sleeping or concentrating on tasks

  • You’ve experienced fluctuations in appetite and weight

  • You’re experiencing physical distress such as headaches, chronic pain, or acute lack of energy

  • You’re struggling with maladaptive coping behaviors such as substance abuse or self-harm

  • You’re experiencing self-injury and/or suicidal ideation

How therapy can help treat depression:

Life is full of ups and downs, from relationships ending, to the loss of a loved one, or a major life transition at work or school. At times, depression may feel more acute and unmanageable than others. It is also common to become accustomed to a lowered mood after years of depression, or because you’re used to being around family members with undiagnosed clinical depression.

Whatever your experience with depression, our team at White Oak Counseling is here to help.

Our therapists draw from evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients understand symptoms and their impact, explore underlying factors, and find relief from depression.
