Therapy for Relationship Stress

Foster healthy connections with support & intention.

When connection feels complicated, therapy can help.

Relationships––romantic, familial, or platonic––are essential to the human experience, but oftentimes, we struggle to show up as our authentic selves. When tension, miscommunication, or conflict unfolds, it can leave you feeling insecure and unsure of how to move forward. You may find yourself repeating old patterns, struggling to hold boundaries, or afraid of saying the wrong thing.

At White Oak Counseling, we provide a safe, supportive space to sort through these experiences, explore what's happening beneath the surface, and reconnect to your needs and values. Together we'll work through your relationship stress so that you can approach your connections with greater confidence, clarity, and self-trust.

Note: we provide therapy services for individuals experiencing relationship stress, but we do not provide couples therapy at this time. If you are seeking couples therapy, we are happy to make a referral to a trusted couples therapist.

We can help you explore issues impacting your relationships:

  • Boundary setting

  • Communication

  • Conflict

  • Emotion regulation

  • Family dynamics

  • Betrayal

  • Affairs & infidelity

  • Breakups & divorce

  • Caregiving & parenting

How therapy can help with relationship stress:

Relationship stress often brings up deep-seated patterns formed long before the current conflict began. In therapy, you'll have space to explore how these patterns play out, and how you want to show up differently in your relationships, whether it's with a parent, partner, sibling, or friend.

Our therapists at White Oak can help you build essential skills such as identifying and setting boundaries, communicating more effectively, managing difficult emotions, and staying grounded during conflict. We'll also help you gain insight into your values and needs so that you can cultivate authentic relationships, whether that means repairing a connection, navigating distance, or making empowered choices about what comes next.

With evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we support you in breaking unhelpful cycles and building the emotional resilience to engage in relationships that honor your true self.
