Trauma-Informed Therapy

Heal at your own pace with compassionate, evidence-based support.

What is trauma-informed care?

Trauma-informed care is a treatment framework that understands the impact past trauma can have on a person's mental health, and implements strategies rooted in safety, trust, empowerment, and collaboration.

If past experiences still negatively impact how you think, feel, or move through the world, you deserve support that honors your story and helps you reclaim a sense of agency and stability. At White Oak Counseling, we offer compassionate, evidence-based therapy grounded in trauma-informed principles to help clients feel supported, understood, and in control as they work toward lasting emotional well-being.

Signs you may benefit from trauma-informed care:

You might benefit from trauma-informed care if you're experiencing the following:

  • Feeling “stuck” after a difficult or overwhelming experience

  • Struggling with anxiety, shame, fear, or relationship challenges tied to past events

  • Difficulty regulating emotions

  • Avoidance patterns, hypervigilance, or disruptions in daily life

  • Wanting a safe space to process experiences without pressure

How trauma-informed therapy helps treat mental health issues:

Trauma-informed care can help you heal from past experiences by helping you understand how they influence your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. At White Oak, our therapists are committed to creating a safe, collaborative environment where your boundaries are respected and your pace guides the work.

Treatment focuses on building trust, strengthening emotional regulation, and developing practical strategies for navigating triggers and stress. You’ll learn how the body responds to trauma, reconnect with your internal resources, and practice skills that support resilience and self-compassion. Our therapists may incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other modalities to help you learn how to reduce distress and build healthier patterns so that you can move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Specialized trauma therapy:

Some individuals experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or Complex PTSD (CPTSD) may benefit from a higher level of care with treatments like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), or another specialized trauma therapy. While we don't currently provide those services at White Oak, we work collaboratively with a network of trusted professionals to provide clients with referrals and resources to ensure each person receives comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to their needs. You don't have to navigate your healing journey alone—we'll walk with you every step of the way to ensure you feel supported, understood, and empowered.
